Riley Fantozzi, Student Writer

Don’t know what to do with your five-day break? From April 9th to the 13th, you could join the nearly two million college students at the beaches or join your family at the dining room table. Wherever you go, close or far, we have recommendations in order to help you have fun and stay safe while making the most of your spring break.

If you’re staying in the area…

Spring break is the perfect time for you to catch up with your loved ones, or explore the nature around us. Mrs. Hoffman says, “I am going to have my family over for Easter dinner on Sunday.” After a great meal, Kool Licks is a great place to get ice cream nearby. “I usually get some and walk around,” Maggie Dunlap says. What’s a better way to spend a free day than ice cream and friends? How about adding in a bit of adventure! Nockamixon State Park and Peace Valley Park are both great places to enjoy nature. You can hammock, grill, and play outside. Ringing Rocks Park also makes for a memorable time. If you bring a metal hammer and hit a rock, you can hear the magic!

If you’re staying not so close…

Going for a swim is high up on the list of the things to do when we get a taste of warm weather, and Spring Break is the perfect time to do that. The most visited Spring Break destinations today are Panama City, Florida, South Padre Island, Texas, and Cancun, Mexico. At these beaches, one can learn to scuba dive, snorkel, fish, and boat. There are guided tours available, along with sailing and cruises. Spring break is the perfect time to try new and exotic foods as well. This is the time and place to make memories. It is also a good time to check out the trails by going on a hike. Mrs. Hoffman also says, “if you want to go hiking or something like that, you can go to Jim Thorpe or Ricketts Glen, like up near Bloomsburg.” These trails are beautiful and are still far enough away from home for a peaceful spring getaway.

Safety matters most…

No matter where you are, it is important to stay safe this spring break. Wherever you may end up swimming, make sure you know where the lifeguard is located. Especially when hiking, be sure to be aware of your surroundings. When going anywhere far from home, remember to bring emergency cash and a charged phone because you never know when you’re going to need it. Also, in hopes of beautiful weather, always put sunscreen on when you head outside. If driving long distances to visit family or go on vacation, remember to take breaks if you are feeling tired or let someone else drive for a portion of the trip. Finally, this spring break will be filled with people, so always wash your hands thoroughly to stay healthy. Follow these tips so everyone will be in good shape for school on April 14, 2020.
