RoofOver Transitional Shelter Donation Drive

RoofOver Transitional Shelter Donation Drive

The Debate Team here at Pennridge High School ran a donation drive to help those at RoofOver Transitional Shelter in Easton, Pennsylvania, these past two weeks. Announcements have been made on the Ramble throughout those two weeks to inform the student body of what kind of items they could bring in to help. The donation drive ended this Friday. Students and staff donated items such as feminine products (pads and tampons), body wash, bar soap, diapers, and deodorant.

Located on Philadelphia Road in Easton, Pennsylvania, RoofOver Transitional Shelter provides limited shelter for working families, including single-parent and two-parent families with children. Their goal is to provide support to families in need as they learn to budget, save, and stabilize themselves. Families have access to a food pantry, utility assistance, and rental assistance.

Lisa Maderic, the advisor for Debate, explains that they “decided as a Debate Team to do something that will ‘make their mark’ since that is this year’s theme at Pennridge” and that they “wanted to do a drive that is not normally expected.” This donation drive asked for things that aren’t the usual items drives ask for, such as food, clothing, toys, etc.. When asked how this drive will impact the outlook of the Debate Team, President Corey Shipman answered, “It makes us more considerate of others’ positions and situations.”  This is a great standpoint to have for such an important club.

It was great to see how much the Pennridge community came together to support such a wonderful cause. The donation boxes located at the main office, library, and nurse’s office were full of all types of donations. The Debate Team thanks all of those who helped out.
