Is Carole Baskin So Bad?

When I watched Tiger King, I was enthralled with the various storylines that tie back to Joe Exotic and his story.  One of the main storylines was that of Carole Baskin.  The docuseries went into detail about the controversies surrounding her former husband’s disappearance, the hypocrisy of her preaching, and more.  I noticed that throughout the series, Joe would “call Carole out” for breeding and selling big cats.  If this is true, it would greatly contradict Carole’s efforts to ban the breeding, selling, and private ownership of big cats.

After the series, I found myself not only hating Joe Exotic and Doc Antle for what they did to their animals but also, Carole Baskin.  To me, it seemed that she was doing the same thing as Joe and Doc, keeping cats captive for monetary gain.  If she bred and sold cats as Joe suggested, that would be even worse.

Upon finishing the series, I decided to research Carole Baskin and the history of Big Cat Rescue, so that I could make a more informed decision on her character. I found that Carole did breed and sell cats, but she also rescued many from dying in fur farms.  I also found out the reason that Carole decided to stop selling and breeding and to start protesting anyone else doing that same thing.  The series portrays her as a crazy, murderous hypocrite, but it seems to me that she is doing her best to protect the cats.  All these facts do not make me like Carole Baskin, but I have gained more respect for her cause.

In my second blog post, I go in-depth about the history of Big Cat Rescue.  To find out more about all things Tiger King and my thoughts head over to my website.  I would love to hear your thoughts about Carole Baskin and the docuseries.
