Despite the Coronavirus pandemic, Pennridge’s 2021 musical Beauty and the Beast will still happen. There will be four days the show will run, from April 8th to the 11th.  Tickets will be sold in blocks of four so that guests can sit safely with people of their household. This year, you will be able to watch the show virtually; however, there will still be 200 people who can attend the musical in person. There will be 60 people in the musical; all of which are a part of Pennridge’s performing arts.                                   

While the show is happening, that doesn’t mean that there haven’t been some difficulties putting it together during this challenging time. “Everyone stands really far apart at practice, and we don’t really use the choir room at all,” Juliette Ruch, the costume designer says. “The cast is really just happy to be able to have the chance to perform in some way as there have been no certainties this past year,” Mrs. Felicia Borghi, the director of the musical says. 

Most people don’t realize the amount of time and commitment it takes for them to be able to put out the outstanding product they do every year. They’ve been practicing Monday through Thursday for the last few months. Another thing that takes a lot of time is making all the costumes that everyone wears during the musical. “I have made Babette’s dress; she’s the feather duster, and I am making Belle’s big yellow gown and a bunch of other things,” says Juliette Ruch. If you like musicals or just want to see something entertaining, then I would recommend you look into seeing the Beauty and the Beast musical next month. If you can’t attend in person or watch it live virtually, Mrs. Godshall will tape one of the shows and you will be able to view it at any time. There is also a Tik Tok account where you can see a lot of interesting posts from kids who are in the musical to keep you in the loop. Everyone is looking forward to including this in a step towards normalcy.
