Adopt a Senior!

Adopt a Senior!

This year has been particularly rough for the class of 2021. I am currently a senior and it is difficult to miss out on the fall football games, pep rallies, and other dances leading up to the spring events. We have not had a prom yet and were worried we might not be able to even have a graduation as a whole graduating class. With everything going on, Shelly Weinberger and Theresa Phillips have continued the growing tradition of “Adopt a Senior” by becoming admins of the online group.

thank you parents for your continuous love and support to help us have the best senior year we possibly can! <3

This Facebook group started last year for the class of 2020 and it is when parents of seniors post a picture and bio about their child and another parent adopts them. By adopting them, they can create a small gift, or give them anything to make their year a bit better. This year it is greatly appreciated more than ever. Shelly says, “Some of the ideas could be, gift cards, food and any candy, and of course college supplies”. I am participating in the adopt a senior group and am so excited for whoever adopted me! Theresa Phillips says, “It is special to see parents adopt seniors they might not even know, but make them feel special in some way shape, or form because they understand how seniors have had a tough year”.

There are over 100 seniors participating and some have already begun receiving their gifts from the parents that adopted them. Theresa also mentioned, “The kids have lost so much of what it means to have a senior year and these are things you can’t teach, they’ll never know. It hurts my heart for these kids to never experience a true senior year. To enjoy the best of their school life that they have worked so hard for. We are thankful for a graduation as a whole class, the best class, the class of 2021”. On behalf of me and all of the seniors, thank you parents for your continuous love and support to help us have the best senior year we possibly can! <3

If you have participated in the Adopt a Senior group, whether you are a parent or student, I would love to hear how your experience was in the comments below!!
