Here’s to the Class of 2021

Senioritis is hitting hard this time of year, but as we prepare to start a new chapter in our lives, let’s look back on some of the moments that stand out from our high school careers.

  1. Where it all started: freshman orientation. Ya know, that awkward day when we were led by Link Crew through the school, and did ice breakers with strangers, yeah that day. Now we are the Link Crew leaders trying to help the incoming freshman ease into the transition of going from middle to high school.
  2. We can’t forget about the “Pennridge Walk Out”. For those of you who do not know, the walkout was calling for stricter gun control following the Parkland school shooting, where 17 lives were lost. Students that walked out brought signs and peacefully protested in front of the main entrance. They received detention for walking out of school that day, but the story gained national publicity and support from several celebrities.
  3. Then, there’s the “Snowstorm Fiasco”. When we were sophomores the weather forecast called for heavy snowfall, yet we stayed in school the whole day. To top it off, we had a fire drill during tenth period. Kids ran from the school with the snow coming down, sprinting to busses or cars. That day, busses struggled to make it out of the school zone and students were even up to FOUR HOURS late when they finally got home. However, we had a pretty awesome snow day afterward.
  4. The bomb threat also caused quite a stir. Still, during sophomore year, there was a bomb threat that caused the entire Pennridge High School student body to evacuate and take cover at North Middle School. Somehow thousands of students were able to cram into the small middle school while they continued their classes. Students were sent to the library, cafeteria, auditorium, and gymnasium. It was a frantic day that made everyone take a step back and come together as a community.
  5. Moving on to junior year. We all know that there is one event that takes the cake, but before that, let’s talk about the success of 2020; the Homecoming football game. Pennridge was not having a good year but won against Hatboro Horsham placing second in the division with a win. Following the victory, P-Block stormed the field with pride.
  6. Now we move onto Covid-19 and dun dun dun… quarantine. The time of the year when everyone was at home, doing assignments asynchronously and had nothing to do, and nowhere to go. I remember hearing the announcement in ninth period that due to Covid-19, we will be quarantining and staying at home for two weeks. That two weeks turned into something much more, something nobody would ever imagine our world would experience. Whether you were in a rut and “groutfitting” every day, or setting new goals and being productive, it was a time that we all got through and came back stronger.
  7. Now as seniors, Abby and Meg look back on some great memories they have made. Abby’s most memorable part of high school was Davinci Day because “it shaped people and helped create new friends when entering high school”. Meg’s favorite part of high school was athletics, specifically track and cross country because “The experiences of meeting new people and being a part of school is such a great feeling”. Both like to focus on good memories because it’s so important to have a positive outlook and reflect on the good rather than the bad.

It has been a crazy four years! As we part and put our best foot forward, let’s not forget where we came from, how we became the people we aspire to be and will become, all of the friends we met, and the mistakes we made. Let’s hope for an even better lifetime of memories.

To the class of 2021, be proud, Pennridge Proud!!
