The Gas Station Pizza Saga

People know the pizza place connected to the gas station on 313 by many names.  Most know it as Pizza Villa, while people who have been long time residents of Perkasie may even know it as Joseph’s.  Now, it goes by Basilico’s, and we wanted to see what this new place has to offer.  Will it be different from the previous establishments in its place?

Our newsgroup of four visited Basilico’s.  When we entered, there were many delicious looking pizzas on display.   The restaurant was very clean, and you can see the whole kitchen, which was also tidy.  The staff was friendly as we sat down to look at the menu.  We ordered a bunch of appetizers: garlic knots, hot wings, garlic Parmesan wings, and crabby fries.  We also ordered a large pizza, half plain, half pepperoni.  I have to admit, we didn’t expect very much going into this restaurant.  It’s connected to a gas station, and all the previous restaurants here have never lasted very long.  However, we were pleasantly surprised; our appetizers came out fairly quick and were very good.  Everyone in the group graded each food item on a scale from one to ten.  The average rating for the crabby fries was 8.75, and senior Delaney Nichols described the snack as “bangin’.”  Next, the garlic knots averaged 9.00, ranking high due to their straight-from-the-oven warmth and delectable taste.  The wings averaged 8.25, with immaculate flavor, diverse sauce options, and a crunch that’s hard to find.

The pizza wasn’t bad, but not necessarily something to brag about in our personal opinion.  All members of our group who had been to this location under its prior names and ownerships said that it tasted fairly similar to how it used to.  The group average rating for the pizza was 7.375. Student Julie Trautner, who has previously been to this restaurant, said, “The pizza was okay, but doesn’t compare to Pizza Villa.”  She also emphasized that her favorite menu item, “buffalo chicken pizza,” is not up to par with other pizza shops in the Perkasie area. While we sat in the restaurant, many people came in to pick up their take out and never had to wait around for long.  Some people came in just to grab a slice and go.  It is in a convenient location for someone who is busy and needs a quick bite.

We spoke to a server at Basilico’s, named Dawn, who told us a little bit about what working at the restaurant was like.  She said, “We’re all like a family here.”  For Dawn, this statement is actually quite literal, as her two daughters also work alongside her at the new establishment.  She joined Basilico’s staff about two months ago and says she was met with a “fun working environment.”  Additionally, Dawn raves that her favorite item on the menu is the “chicken broccoli Alfredo.”

Overall, we were pleasantly surprised.  The appetizers at Basilico’s are surely the restaurant’s strong point, and the relaxed vibe and fast service definitely do not go unnoticed.  It is fairly inexpensive to eat here, so we would recommend it if you’re passing by.  The entire group is in agreeance: Basilico’s is a new favorite.
