The Sports We Miss Most

In America, sports are an important and loved part of life. Sports teach people teamwork, work ethic, and most importantly, it brings people together. Since the Coronavirus Pandemic began, events have been put on hold or have been limited, and one thing that people seem to be missing the most is attending sporting events and the thrill you get while sitting in the bleachers as you cheer for your team.

Teams have been doing their best to bring as many people as they can safely to spectate, and with the Coronavirus Vaccine becoming more available, the number of people allowed will increase in the near future. Dr. Anthony Fauci says, “By the time the vaccine gets to the general public, the people who’ll be going to the basketball games who don’t have any underlying conditions, it could be the end of April, May, or even June.” So there is hope for larger crowds, but the real question is, what sport do people miss watching the most?

We held a poll asking what sport people miss the most; the results showed 40 percent of people miss football the most. The reasoning for football being the highest was that people love the “energy” of the games, people want the community together on Friday nights, and people miss our student section: P-Block. The results also showed that 20 percent of people miss basketball games because they enjoy getting ready to do the spirit wear with friends, going to the games, and the energy and excitement that come along with it.

With the possible return of sports, there will be new rules and regulations to keep the players and audience safe. The spectators will be reduced to half capacity, limiting indoor sports, all attendees wearing masks, social distancing from non-family members, and having designated seats. As for professional sports such as the NFL, you can expect ticket prices to be doubled and for them to sell out quickly. Prices will be higher due to the new measures taken to practice COVID guidelines, and the sellout is a product of limited tickets.

In conclusion, things are going to be different as we all try to make our way back to the way life used to be. The pandemic has had a great impact on life, and we are all trying to cope and make the best decisions for everyone’s safety. The goal is to someday be back in the stadiums cheering our school and teams on and enjoying the sports we miss the most again.
