The Best Sushi Outside of Perkasie
While the sound of raw fish wrapped in rice and seaweed may not sound the most enticing, the taste is truly worth the effort. Sushi is one of those foods that people either love or hate; some people are turned away by the raw fish and seaweed while others are hooked on this combination. When paired with soy sauce, wasabi, or ginger, this roll of raw seafood transforms into the ideal meal. Many in the Perkasie, Pennsylvania area resort to store-bought, pre-packaged rolls due to the lack of sushi bars present in the town, which is where neighboring towns’ sushi restaurants come into play. With the homemade, hand-rolled fresh sushi that is provided from these restaurants, it is hard to pass up. However, the question remains: which restaurant’s sushi is the best?
With the assistance of two professional-sushi-enthusiasts, Kevin (49) and Shannon (47) Herbst, we were able to conduct the survey of the best sushi restaurants around the outskirts of Perkasie, Pennsylvania. The experiment is based on two restaurants: 86 West of Doylestown and a family favorite, the Tuna Bar of Philadelphia, as well as one grocery store, for comparison, Wegmans. Kevin, who insisted on rating the sushi on a one to five scale of “chopsticks,” gave the highest score to the Tuna Bar’s Old City Roll. This was followed by a 4.5 chopstick tie between the King Ghidorah Roll of the Tuna Bar and the Kickin Crunch Roll of 86 West. On account of the Kickin Crunch Roll, Kevin regarded, “I’ve had this before [almost every time he is at 86 West, which is at least every two weeks] and it consistently rates a 4.5 out of 5 chopsticks. Very good.”
Although the Tuna Bar and 86 West may not always be the most convenient option due to the travel and time for preparation, it was agreed by both Kevin and Shannon that, “Wegmans’ pre-made sushi is a suitable alternative in a time crunch, despite also involving some travel; it is a good on-the-go option.” Overall, Shannon gave the Spicy Shrimp Roll from Wegmans a rating of 3 chopsticks, which is lower than the ratings received by 86 West and the Tuna Bar. In spite of the effort of travel, money, and time, sushi from 86 West of Doylestown and the Tuna Bar of Philadelphia, in addition to Wegmans from a convenience standpoint, are worth this endeavor, and many, including Kevin and Shannon Herbst, recommend seeking these sushi bars out!
