The Benefits of Beach Yoga
The beach is the most popular vacation spot, probably because of how nice it is and the number of activities you can do. A very fun, but underrated, activity to do at the beach is yoga. Doing yoga on the beach allows you to connect with nature as well as get a good, sweaty workout.
Hot yoga is done in a studio, heated above room temperature, to increase flexibility, burn more calories, reduce stress, etc. A way you can partake in hot yoga, but for free, is by doing it on the beach in the heat of the summer. You can find classes that take place on the beach, or you can look up yoga videos on Youtube and go from there. If you have never done hot yoga, or yoga at all, be prepared for its intensity and make sure to take breaks. Drink lots of water before, during and after, to replenish your body because you will be sweating more than usual. Emily Maher, an avid yoga doer says, “practicing yoga outdoors is an incredibly tranquil and pleasant experience. It’s the perfect space to reconnect with nature, your sense, and inner-self.” She also talks about how doing yoga outdoors allows you to let go of your ego and be comfortable with practicing it anywhere. Having a scenic view makes the experience so much better and really allows for more endorphins to be released, while at the same time strengthening your body and mind.
Another thing hot yoga is good for is the skin. Sweat actually creates a warm environment that nourishes the skin and improves circulation, bringing oxygen- and nutrient-rich blood to skin cells. The minerals provide a natural exfoliant, combats dryness, and also purges the skin from bacteria. Yoga provides stress relief and will leave your skin glowing and vibrant. Although sweat can be beneficial, you need to clean your skin properly to get those effects. Make sure before your workout to thoroughly clean your skin from all makeup and any dirt. During your session, bring a towel that you can use during breaks to prevent sweat build-up. After you are done, clean your face right away with a gentle cleanser. Pat skin dry and apply any treatments. Make sure to always moisturize and drink tons of water! Have fun!
