PHS Men’s Basketball Team Road to Success

The Pennridge Men’s Basketball team had quite an impressive run this year with a record of 15-9. The team’s starting five consisted of Xavier Peters at point guard, Jake Buesing at shooting guard, Matt Campione at small forward, Caden Fisher at power forward, and Tommy Cramer at the center. This starting five contained four seniors who tremendously impacted the chemistry of the team. Buesing, Campione, Fisher, and Cramer have been playing together all four years of high school and their chemistry on the court shows it.

Pennridge went 8-4 at home this season which is better than their 5-4 away record most likely because of the energy that came from the student section at their games. There were always a lot of fans there to cheer on the team and it obviously had an impact on the play style. Parker Wood, who attended nearly every game this season, speaks on the effect he believes the student section had, “Momentum definitely swings in the team’s favor when the student section gets loud after a bucket or good defensive possession. It gets so loud at times that it feels like the visiting team doesn’t know the plays.” The student section doesn’t get all the credit though, these players really put in the work this whole winter. Senior and starting shooting guard, Jake Buesing, gave us a glimpse into the work they put in, “six days of practice, and then we throw in strength and conditioning two to three times a week. We also watch film throughout the week to see our opponent’s tendencies to prepare ourselves for game day.”

Their training was consistent and tough, which paid off for these boys during the season with good results. With the student section and the players, the team still wouldn’t be what it is without Coach Behrens. He has earned these boys’ respect over the years of being their coach as well as the respect of other coaches across the league. This season he hit 300 wins while being the head coach of the Pennridge Men’s Basketball team. This is a huge milestone in his coaching career and he ended the season with 305 wins. The team had an upsetting loss this past Friday against West Chester Henderson in the first game of districts. This loss doesn’t reflect the talent this team had this year. They gave Pennridge an incredible season that they should be proud of and we can’t wait to see how they do next year as the underclassmen find themselves as leaders.
