With Summer right around the corner and temperatures increasing, the ice cream industry is getting more demand. While it is most popular in summer, the frozen treat is still extremely popular in the spring.

Owowcow Ice Cream Shop, a local ice cream company, serves ice cream year-round. They pride themselves in serving handcrafted ice cream made daily from fine, organic, natural, local ingredients, l as well as roasted fruits, veggies, organic extracts, and hand-baked inclusions. They have five locations in the area, including Chalfont, Ottsville, Easton, Wrightstown, and Lambertville. All five locations are open daily from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. The ice cream shop has been in business since 2009 and is owned by John Fezzuoglio.

Owowcow has a variety of flavors. Their current consistent flavors include: House Vanilla, I Hate Chocolate, Strawberry, Cookie Monstah, Sweet Honey Cream, Blueberry Vanilla, Cashew Caramel, Mint Chocolate Chip, Cookies & Cream, Almond Coconut Chocolate Chip, Espresso, and Honey Lavender. On top of their everyday flavors, they also serve limited-time monthly flavors. These flavors are determined based off of the time of the year, holidays, and upcoming events. Each month the new flavors move in and the old monthly flavors move out. The monthly flavors are loved by the community. A Pennridge South Middle School student who enjoys visiting Owowcow, Grace Ritting, said, “I like how they have new flavors every month. It encourages people to try new things. It’s probably fun for the company to experiment with the flavors too.” The monthly flavors are also loved by the employees. Anastasia Bonifate an Owowcow Employee, said “It’s nice to always have something fresh and exciting to recommend to customers.”

For the month of April, there are three limited-time monthly flavors. The first is Local Wildflower Honey Chamomile, which is a sweet and floral ice cream featuring local Meadowview honey, local chamomile from Bluestem Botanicals, and a honey caramel swirl with Raymer’s homemade caramel. The second is Pineapple Matcha Pistachio, which is a pineapple vanilla ice cream with a ribbon of matcha white chocolate fudge and roasted pistachios. The final one is Coconut Granola Chocolate Chip, which is a coconut Ice cream with chocolate chips and a granola butter swirl, from locally owned and female-founded Oat Haus.

We went to the Chalfont location to taste-test the new monthly flavors for April and reviewed them on a scale from one to five. The first flavor we tried was Pineapple Matcha Pistachio. We enjoyed the combination of pineapple and pistachio, and we felt it was very unique. The average rating of Pineapple Matcha Pistachio was 2.75 out of five. The next flavor that we rated was Local Wildflower Honey Chamomile. Overall we really enjoyed this monthly flavor, and we described it as fresh and smooth. The average rating for this flavor was 3.5 out of five. The final flavor we rated was Coconut Granola Chocolate Chip. This flavor was our favorite out of the three. The combination of coconut, granola, and chocolate chips was very good. Although personally, I am not the biggest fan of coconut, I was surprised that I enjoyed this flavor. Our average rating for this flavor was 3.75 out of five.

Overall, all three of Owowcow Ice Cream Shops April flavors were very good, but which one is the best is debatable. In our opinion, the Coconut Granola Chocolate Chip was the best. So if you are in the mood for some ice cream this month our recommendation would be to try Owowcow’s Coconut Granola Chocolate Chip.
