Andrew Levush is a 17-year-old senior at Pennridge High School. In addition to being the starting center mid for Pennridge’s Varsity Soccer team, he plays for the Ukrainian Nationals where he is a starter at center back. Andrew has been playing soccer since he was only three years old and after high school, he looks to continue that journey as he is committed to playing soccer at Saint Vincent College next year. During the recruiting process, Andrew explained that the coach was constantly texting him and checking up on him which played a huge part in his decision to commit there. On top of that while it is a small school Andrew said “It gives a big college feel.”
Over Andrew’s time in high school, he was on varsity for two years at Pennridge. This year Levush had one goal and seven assists being one of the leading players in assists for the team. He was also one of the selected captains for Pennridge this year. While he was not an official captain last year as a junior his coach, Aaron Rapsiniski said “As a junior, he stepped into a starting role, and started to lead by example without being a captain which prompted me to make him a captain this year.” A key moment for Andrew over his years playing soccer was being able to go to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Disney with his friends. “It was my first time going and it was a cool experience,” said Levush.
Outside of soccer, Andrew is a normal high schooler. He enjoys going to the gym and working out as well as hanging out with his friends. But as Andrew looks to go to college, academics are also a priority for him. When asked about what is different from being in season compared to being out of season he expressed that he likes to focus on his academics and school work. In addition to playing soccer in college, he is looking to major in Engineering.
Andrew Levush is a very unique player. While he plays center back for the school team he is a center mid for his club team. When we asked Coach Rapsiniski about what makes him unique he said “He can play almost any position on the field, which isn’t something everyone can do, he played almost every level on the field this year and even had a brief stint playing goalie this summer.” Coach Rapsiniski also mentioned that he has the unique ability to play any position on the field at a high level. On top of that, he is super driven and committed to the sport and whatever he wants to accomplish and steps up to expect the best out of everyone including himself. Meaning, that whatever he expects others to do he does as well. He also expressed that he believes everyone should play a sport. “It opens you up to new things and meeting really nice and new people that can be friends down the line,” said Andrew.
Andrew also has a deep respect for the game and all the people around him. “Coaches have had a major impact, I practice three days a week and they can be like a father figure, especially my new Coach, Dave he is always pushing me to work harder and be a better person,” said Andrew.
During his time with his club team, the Ukrainian Nationals, Andrew has participated in 3 seasons for the 2024 Ukrainian Nationals (Black ECRL 07 Boys), the 2023 Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals 07B E64 (PHI Ukrainian Nationals 07B E64) and the 2022 Ukrainian Nationals (Black (A)). He said he was very fortunate to be a part of those teams and has built lasting relationships and learned skills and lessons along the way. “I was surrounded with people that I can call family,” Levush explained. He also expressed how to have new teammates and make more relationships through playing soccer at the next level in college. While soccer may seem to consume him, if you get to know Andrew you realize he gets a lot of qualities from the game but has much more to offer as a person, which is what makes him so great.
