Summer in the Smoky Mountains

Bryn Spear, Student Writer

The Great Smoky Mountains are one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world, and they are also a beautiful sanctuary of nature. Located along the border between Tennessee and North Carolina, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is an amazing place to visit. Whether you’re looking for a fully immersive camping trip, or a laid back stay in a beautiful rental, you can find both here. Watching the sunset over their wooded peaks is a sight unmatched. Almost completely secluded by trees on all fronts, this is a perfect escape from day to day life. This is the perfect place to find new experiences and reconnect with the outdoors.

From hiking, to kayaking, to underground exploring, these ranges have it all. One of the most notable sites here is the Chimney Tops Trail. With a gorgeous pool of water at its base, and a path leading to peaks overlooking miles of lush forests, you can find a wide range of activities to do. Including: cliff diving, swimming, hiking, and rock climbing. The Tuckaleechee Caverns are another natural wonder that can be found in Townsend, Tennessee. Here, you can expect to see an unbelievable cave carved out by millions of years underground rushes of fresh water, that is cleaner than the water running from your taps at home. However, the Smoky Mountains are more than just a collection of natural beauty.

While the mountains may seem untouched by man, if you find yourself in the small towns of the Smokys, like Gatlinburg, Tennessee, you will be pleasantly surprised. This charming town and towns like it are a bridge from the great outdoors to a homey connection with society. This combination of forests, and that honest small town feel provide various things like cute dinners and shops selling homemade fudge. All of these things put together are what make a trip here one not to forget.
