How to Start Your Minecraft Survival World

  1. Create your world. Make sure to name it something that you will remember. If you want to customize your world before you start, go into More World Options.
  2. As soon as you click Create New World, you will spawn in and it is time to start collecting resources. The first thing you need is wood so you can start to create tools. Find the nearest trees and start breaking some logs.
  3. Craft your logs into planks and sticks. Create a crafting table and a wooden pickaxe so you can start to mine.
  4. After collecting some stone, make a stone sword, pickaxe, and axe. At this point, you may also want to collect a decent amount of wood so you don’t have to interrupt your mining and come back above ground.
  5. The easiest method of making a starter base for your first few nights is to dig into the side of a mountain. Make sure to get some coal to use for torches and light up the inside and outside of your house.
  6. Don’t worry about crafting a bed just yet, since you will be mining throughout the night. If there are any animals near you (chickens, cows, pigs), you can get some food while it’s still daytime,
  7. Mine in a staircase pattern down to about the Y=12 level. This is where you will be able to find the most resources. After you mine your first iron ore, make sure to smelt it and create an iron pickaxe for collecting diamonds and redstone.
  8. Focus on gathering materials to create the following items: bucket, flint and steel, set of iron tools, set of iron armor
  9. Once you’ve completed the previous steps, there are many directions you can go in. Maybe you want to upgrade your house, gather food, create a farm, or mine even more.
  10. Make sure to keep in mind that your main goals are to mine diamonds, build a portal to the nether, find villagers to trade with, and gather ender pearls.
