Eatertainment; To Eat or Not To Eat
While many may not be aware of the term “eatertainment,” it happens to be very common in society. Eatertainment is simply a guest experience that involves dining before, after, or during other activities; this would include a bowling venue with seating for food and beverages, a concert that sells refreshments during a show, and a movie theatre that allows guests to eat their meal while watching a film. This trend emerged in the early 21st century and quickly gained popularity from millennials who favored putting money towards experiences rather than products. By allowing consumers to share an experience with others, the goal of corporations is to extend the stay of the party in order to produce more of a profit. As stated from multiple resources, 78% of millennials are more inclined to spend money on trips and nights out rather than materialistic items.
The main idea of the Eatertainment trend is for customers to have a shared experience and create memories. According to interviewees, Mandi Gravatt, a senior at Pennridge High School, and Mrs. Kim Mauer, mother of Lauren Mauer who is also a senior at Pennridge High School, they agreed that an ideal form of eatertainment should include: family or friends, great food, and a fun activity in an uplifting, entertaining atmosphere. While the venue and events are the main attraction to the customer, the menu is the main profit. A report done by SevenRooms explains how customers would rather spend their money on a mediocre plate of food with great company, service, and environment than an excellent plate of food with bad service and atmosphere.
Although places that provide eatertainment tend to be nonexistent in the small town of Perkasie, Pennsylvania, Gravatt and Mauer acknowledged that their local town of Perkasie and even neighboring towns of Sellersville and Quakertown need more venues of this entertainment environment. Eatertainment may even boost business for local businesses in Perkasie since it can incorporate activities for everyone of all ages to enjoy and take part in, as well as allow friends and family to partake in a form of entertainment that is present in their hometown. Although eatertainment may not be favored by everyone, it is still a great way to get out, whether it is on occasion or not, stay entertained, and spend quality time with loved ones.
