When the hot summer sun beats down on the backs of young teens, what is their first thought? Some might say a cold drink or maybe ice cream, but in Perkasie, Pennsylvania, teens’ minds go to Menlo pool. This summertime hotspot originally opened in 1891 and every summer since then has been right next to Lenape Park, which gives even more fun activities for young kids and their families. Liam Boyle, a student at Pennridge High School, said that “When school ends, my head moves towards Menlo and the beach. It’s where the real break begins.” There are waterslides and other water-related activities that keep the heat of the summer at bay.
The opening day for 2025 is May 24. Menlo offers both day and twilight passes. Twilight hours are later in the day, where prices are discounted, and it’s considered night swimming. It is much quieter and allows for more peaceful swimming time. A day pass for this pool starts at $20 for an adult and $15 for children/ seniors for weekdays. During the twilight hours, adults are $10 and children/seniors are $8. Menlo also offers weekend adult passes for $31 during the day and $16 for twilight. Children and senior weekend passes are $21 during the day and $11 for twilight. Member passes are also listed on their website, but prices vary each year. These passes are very popular because the Menlo pool is so popular. “I usually go about once or twice a week, especially when it’s really hot or when my friends/family are free.” Erin Ketcham, another student at Pennridge who attends Menlo every summer, stated.
Menlo Pool caters to people of all ages by having many different kinds of pools and activities. Menlo consists of three main pools with multiple features available at each, as well as locker rooms, a snack stand, tables, chairs, and loungers located around the facility. The first pool, a 25-yard style Competition Pool, has eight lanes and features varying depths ranging from 4 to 13 feet. The pool is also equipped with diving boards, a rock wall, and a drop slide. The second pool is called the Leisure pool and features a zero-grade beach-style accessible entrance, whirlpool, lazy river, and activity pool for all ages. Lastly is the Toddler Pool, which is important to all of those with young children. This Pool is complete with a frog slide and whale spout for children ages 12 and under with adult supervision.
As you can see Menlo has many features that make it fun for the whole family. Like most parks, there have been renovations throughout the years. In 1939, they replaced the concrete pool, and in 1964 The pool complex was expanded to include a tot pool and bathhouse. In 2007, the original Menlo Pool was replaced by the modern Menlo Aquatic Center. There are also nighttime events that include Saturday, July 12, “Oldies Dance Night”, Saturday, July 26, “Christmas in July”, Saturday, August 2, “Menlo Beach Days!” These events all have live music with local bands. People really enjoy these events, but unfortunately, these events are only open to members of Menlo Pool, which just gives people another great reason to buy member passes for the whole family to enjoy.
