The Northwest Haiti Christian Mission Trip in 2012

The general goal of a mission trip is to meet the needs of a community, share the gospel, and foster long-term relationships. Mission trips are a valuable way to support communities, build relationships, and promote greater understanding and cooperation between people of different cultures and backgrounds.

World Race is an organization that plans mission trips all around the world to underprivileged communities. They go to Thailand, with a noteworthy reputation for sex trafficking, and nearly 90 percent of the population is unreached by the gospel. They will work to plant churches and provide opportunities for those in that community. They also travel to Cambodia, Siem Reap, to spread the gospel to a community that is clinging to hope. The people of Cambodia are faced with poverty due to a mass genocide they still haven’t recovered from. They will travel to Vietnam which is completely communist and is very limited to religious freedoms. They travel to Guatemala, Antigua, where they spend time with local believers who are currently working to bring the word of Christ to a new generation. They teach the kids who are at risk of falling into gang violence how to speak English or kick a soccer ball. Anyone can join this outstanding organization that is fighting for the spread of the gospel and helping these communities. At the touch of a button, anyone can apply to be a part of these trips or just even donate.

Mission trips can be inspirational for many reasons, like experiencing personal growth, forming strong bonds, witnessing the impact of service, and developing a global perspective. Cameron Hurrell went on a local mission trip in Quakertown. She explained that they served multiple times a day. She said some volunteers went to women’s centers, food banks, and warehouses where they would organize donations to send to Africa. Cameron said her favorite part of the trip was, “spending time with people that have a similar drive to help others and benefit the community.” Anna Yates has a sister that went on a mission trip to Philadelphia and another one to Florida. She explained that her sister, “loved being with the kids and showing them love they don’t get from home and watching them literally glow from the inside out.” She also explained that it was a lot of work and very exhausting but how her sister just loved being there and being able to help others.

Mission trips can help with community engagement in several ways. They provide an opportunity for people to connect and build relationships with members of a community that they may not have had the chance to do otherwise. This can create a sense of trust and understanding between different individuals and communities. Mission trips often involve various forms of community service that address the needs of a community, such as healthcare, education, or construction. These efforts can strengthen the community by improving its infrastructure and social services. Mission trips can help raise awareness of the challenges faced by the community and the ways in which outsiders can help. This can inspire greater community involvement and engagement in social issues. Overall, mission trips can be a valuable way to foster relationships and promote community engagement.
