If you’re looking for something fun to do on your weekend around the Bucks County area, try visiting the new R/C Richland Crossings Movies in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. The theater, originally belonging to Regal Theaters, contains specialized and updated technology dedicated to give you the best viewing experience possible. Some of these amenities include luxury heated recliner chairs, large-format auditoriums, Dolby surround sound systems in each theater, reserved seating, and accommodating discounts for children, seniors, and active members in the military.
A showing of “Imaginary,” produced by Blumhouse Productions, proves that this theater gives customers a great experience. “Imaginary,” a PG13-rated horror thriller film, follows the story of a woman named Jessica who returns to her childhood house with her new husband and his two children. Alice, Jessica’s youngest stepdaughter, instantly finds an old stuffed teddy bear named Chauncy and immediately attaches herself to it. Not long after she finds the bear, Alice begins a “game” with Chauncy that requires her to collect and do odd things, such as collecting a lock of hair or completing an action that hurts. Jessica, worried about how connected Alice is to the teddy bear, has a specialist come in to talk to her. Alice asks if she can have Chauncy in the room during their session, and the therapist obliges. It’s only when Jessica watches back the session’s tape that she realizes that something is off with Chauncy. As Alice completes the list of rules, it’s a race against time to save her from Chauncy.
Since COVID-19 hit the United States, most, if not all public entertainment spaces had to close down, and some have been forced to go out of business completely. “I watch a lot of shows and movies at home through Netflix or Prime Video,” says Jordynn Popowicz, a senior at Central Bucks South High School, when asked how COVID-19 had affected her movie and entertainment experience. She also stated that she had not visited a movie theater since the original shutdowns. As the world begins to transition back to life as it was before Covid , theaters and other public event establishments are beginning to open and rise to popularity again. When asked his opinions on going to public movie theaters again as a main way of seeing new media, Frankie Fanelli, a Pennridge High School senior, replied: “Yes, I would give it a try and see who else does it.”
A new and updated look to this old theater truly rejuvenated the establishment, making it appear a lot cleaner, in hopes of the new business gaining traction and becoming a frequent and popular spot for entertainment in Quakertown. “It could be a cool place to go with friends,” said Fanelli when discussing the updated furniture and if it could convince him to visit. While there are many fun and exciting activities around Bucks County, movie theaters are just now starting to come back, and some are better than ever! It never hurts to try something new, and this theater should definitely be on your bucket list this summer!
