With the warm weather just around the corner, plenty of ice cream parlors and cold treat stands will be opening up their doors for the season. One of these stores is Mom’s Real Italian Water Ice of Hatfield, which is open and ready for the summer season to begin. Mom’s Real Italian Water Ice is open from 2-9 p.m. daily to serve the community and is located just 15 minutes away from Pennridge High School. Mom’s Real Italian Water Ice provides not only water ice but a variety of cold treats such as ice cream, soft serve, and floats. There are also specialty drinks called Koolers and Whips, which are unique to Mom’s Real Italian Water Ice. Mom’s is always stocking up on their flavors to make sure that each person’s favorite flavor is always available.

Mom’s Real Italian Water Ice has some competition when it comes to the cool treats they serve. They provide a bigger selection, lower price, and better atmosphere than Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard. Henry Kulik, the owner of Mom’s Real Italian Water Ice, expressed how he strives to provide a pleasing experience to those who choose to eat at Mom’s. “We offer a great working experience first off,” stated Kulik. Kulik also stated how the water ice is made in the store on a daily basis and all the ice cream at Mom’s is made for them by a small Pennsylvania Dutch family business. “I would definitely recommend this place to anyone,” stated Brogan Sullivan, a senior at Souderton High School. Sullivan would rather go to Mom’s than another cool treat place such as Rita’s as he believes Mom’s prices are reasonable and the business itself has room to sit and hang out with friends. “I think I would rather go to a smaller business just because they always have good customer service,” said Sullivan.

Our newsgroup decided to try out Mom’s for ourselves, and it did not disappoint. As soon as we got there, there was already a line. The parking situation was tricky but manageable. We were surprised by the amount of flavors that we were able to choose from. Along with your soft-serve ice cream, you can obtain toppings of your choosing. Heath, M&M’s, sprinkles, and gummy bears were just a few of the many options when it came to toppings.

Mom’s Real Italian Water Ice not only provides sweet treats to the community but also holds and hosts many fundraisers and community events throughout the year. Mom’s works with most of the local sports associations as well as the local elementary schools. “We’ve been providing our services remotely to the Quakertown Soccer Association for over 20 years,” stated Kulik. Mom’s is also humble about their donations and doesn’t feel the need to publish that information to gain public praise. Mom’s Real Italian Water Ice is a small business that has real charm and great value, not only in the sweet treat department but also in the service department.
