The world of fast food and local restaurants is always evolving. Without the ability to advertise on national stages, how do you know which places are good? We wondered that for ourselves after seeing all these restaurants on Instagram, so we decided to try out Red Rooster and rate the menu items. The food we tried consisted of a chicken sandwich, chicken tenders, loaded fries, regular fries, rooster sauce, and milkshakes. The food did not disappoint, leading us to plan another trip back to get their food again.
When we got there, we realized that the seating was going to be a problem. There were three tables with two seats and a counter with four seats. The problem is that there were five of us. We had to split up the group when we ate, which definitely brought down the experience. Once we ordered, we waited around ten minutes for our food which wasn’t too bad considering there were a few other people there. The service was also questionable, with the employee consistently being on his phone when people were waiting to order. “The service was pretty decent. Sometimes they didn’t see us wait at the counter, but we also got some free extra sauce,” said Cade Bachman.
Once we got our food we were all hungry and ready to rate the food. The first item was their Chicken Sandwich. The sandwich had chicken, pickles, slaw, and rooster sauce. Something we all noticed is there wasn’t much sauce on the sandwich if any at all. The chicken was also a little dry, resulting in a lower rating. Overall, it was still a good chicken sandwich, and with some people liking it a little more than others, the group decided to give it an 8/10 rating.
The next part of the meal was a chicken tender. When we saw the order only consisted of one chicken tender, we were a little confused, but we understood why when we got our food. The chicken tender was about the size of the sandwich, so it made sense why you were only getting one. You have the option to get two if you want, but it’s more like four regular chicken tenders. While they had good taste and size as well, they were simply too hot. It was not spicy hot either, temperature hot. We agreed on a rating of 8.6/10.
Then it was time to try out the fries. The regular fries were okay, but the loaded fries were a different story. The loaded fries were easily the best item on the menu. They had a base of fries topped with cheese, chicken, and rooster sauce. That combination worked extremely well together and easily topped all other items that we tried. We rated these a 9.5/10.
The final items we ordered were the milkshakes. We tried vanilla and cookies and cream. Despite a very long wait for the milkshakes, they turned out to be just okay. They didn’t have any item or ingredient that made them stand out from other milkshakes and on top of that they were $8.
All together, Red Rooster makes for a great fried chicken place. We all enjoyed trying it and recommend that you also give it a try. Red Rooster features other menu items as well, including; loaded macaroni and cheese, rooster bites, and bone-in wings. It makes for a great underground local spot that sells good quality food.
