The Importance of taking Journalism

By taking journalism, not only does one grow as a writer, but as a person as well. This class prepares you for the real world, and though it is focused on journalism, you learn information that you can use in all avenues of life.

Though I am not majoring in English or anything close to that, I will use grammar lessons that I have learned in the future to write papers. I will also know how to find the best sources possible and cite them correctly when writing for articles and essays. Lastly, I will use the ruthlessness I have learned from being a journalist to always get to the bottom of a story and expose the corrupt backings to things I witness.

Journalism will help me in the real world as well. One example of this is knowing legislation put in place surrounding what can and cannot be posted about someone or something, specifically libel and defamation. Knowing this will help me know what rights I have as a citizen and what I can post online. Also where you can take pictures will be useful in the future, as pictures can be taken in most public places. Overall, I am glad that I took this course as I have learned so many valuable lessons that I can and will use in the future.
