The Pennridge Track Team

One of the most successful sports teams if not the most successful team at Pennridge is the one that no one talks about.  The Pennridge track team has achieved success year after year. This year has been different though they have lost their first dual meet since the 2014 season.  For any other team, a 2-1 start would not be bad, but with the success this team has achieved in the past, they know it could be better.

The team is 2-1 currently and they still have three league meets to go.  Their toughest meet that still remains is the meet against CB West.  CB West has an incredible track team and is always a tough opponent for Pennridge.  The Pennridge team is up for the challenge though and will give it their best effort.  The team will need big performances from their best runners: Diego Lera-Lozano, Joey Gant, and Andrew Reice.  A win against CB West would be huge because it would give the team some real motivation for the SOL, District, and State meets.

Coach Hosier has been the coach of the Pennridge track team for many years.  He is well respected and brings success to the team.  He has learned many lessons over the years as the track coach that have helped him be successful. He stated that “Over the past couple of years I have learned to listen to my runners more.”  By learning from his runners he is able to see when they can handle harder workouts and when he should ease up on them a bit.  This year Coach Hosier has also had to deal with the struggles of COVID.  Many of the kids either had to quarantine or, “lost a lot of athletes due to the virus. Parents wanted their kids to stay home.”  This year the track team’s numbers are down compared to the past couple of years.

This year the team is not what it used to be, but they are still very good compared to other teams.  They give it their best effort at practices so they will not lose again.  One of Pennridge’s top mile runners, Riley Denton, when asked if he trained any harder this season explained that “quite frankly, I just always train hard.”  There is a reason that this track team succeeds year after year and it is because of the work they put in.  Another reason this track team is so successful is because of how tight-knit this team is.  As Riley put it, “There are a lot of characters on the team.”  This team trains hard to like any other team, but they also know the balance of having fun which will always make a team more successful.  When a sports team does not just become about the sport itself, but also about the people you play it with, then you know that you are a part of something special.

This team is a fantastic team that is very good now and also looks to have a bright future as well.  They will hopefully finish the season with only that one lost to North Penn and be ready to bounce back undefeated next year.
