Snowboarding has always been more than just sliding down a mountain. It is a lifestyle built with creativity, self-expression, and freedom, and music fits naturally into that world. For many riders, snowboarding and music go hand in hand, forming a soundtrack that describes how each day on the mountain feels. Certain songs can become permanently linked to core memories, like landing a new trick, riding with friends, or trying something new that once felt terrifying… but ended up being invigorating.
Professional snowboarders often talk about how music inspires them while they are riding. Three-time Olympic gold medalist, 15-time X Games gold medalist, and Burton US open winner, Shaun White has his perfect snowboarding playlist. Shaun White’s playlist is a mix of high-energy rock and alternative beats. White’s playlist reflects his bold and daring style on and off the halfpipe. His playlist consists of songs like “Can’t Stop” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, “The Pretender” by the Foo Fighters, and “Immigrant Song” by Led Zeppelin.
Chloe Kim, who is a two-time Olympic halfpipe gold medalist, multiple X Games winner, and World Championship Winner, has her perfect playlist. Chloe Kim’s playlist features a mix of pop and indie tunes. Kim’s music reflects her vibrant personality and the joy she brings to the halfpipe. She has songs like “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish, “Blinding Lights” by the Weeknd, and “Green Light” by Lorde on her playlist.
High School Snowboarder, Will Ashby, described how music helps set the mood and bring good energy to his sessions. “I don’t have a specific playlist that I made, but I have a White Girl Bangers playlist that I listen to,” Ashby said. He listens to music while snowboarding to get pumped up and for the vibes. One song that gets him really pumped up, he said, is “Last Friday Night” by Katie Perry. Ashby also mentioned he enjoys listening to Pitbull as well while snowboarding.
Another avid snowboarder, Ben Taylor, shared his experience with some good music and hitting the slopes. He has a few playlists for snowboarding that mostly consist of rap. Taylor also explained that he listens to music, “To focus and to get pumped up if I’m going to send something I’m scared to do.” Music becomes a tool for mental consistency in a sport where conditions are constantly changing.
Overall, music has become an essential part of snowboarding, shaping riding styles and performance. It has become deeply woven into the boarding experience. Whether you are a pro or a beginner, listening to music helps you focus and get hyped up. No matter what genre of music you prefer, it turns snowboarding into something more than just a sport; it becomes a feeling and can set the tone for your entire mood, energy, and mindset throughout your trip.
