Pennridge Boy’s Track Update

Pennridge boy’s track team has hopes of winning their sixth straight SOL championship and looks to gain momentum throughout the season. Led by coach Hosier and a plethora of returning athletes, the team is more motivated than ever to win meets. The Pennridge boy’s track team did not have a season in 2020 because of the coronavirus which made returning in 2021 a little more difficult. Landon Mcintyre a senior sprinter, says “it was hard getting back into routine after missing a season”. It will be interesting to see how the team can continue to grow from their 2-1 start to the season. Pennridge’s first win came against C.B East on April 6 and they beat Souderton on April 13th. Pennridge’s first loss came against North Penn on March 30.

on April 17, the boys attended the annual Central Bucks Relay Invitational. Joey Gant, a junior sprinter, has the fastest time in Pennsylvania’s 200-meter dash. Andrew Reice, Diego Lero Lazano, and Austin Prudish hold the second fastest time in Pennsylvania’s 400 by 400-meter relay. Andrew Reice commented on his relay time saying, “I’ve been running the 400 more with a time of 51.9 seconds. I’d say I’m having a good season, but would still like to drop some time to get to my preseason goals.” Andrew Reice has been running track throughout high school and is one of the standout runners from this year’s senior class.

Andrew Long, a senior javelin thrower and 4 by 100 runner, has been battling injuries to start the season. Long is super excited to get the SOL championship back and knows it will take perseverance and hard work to attain his goal. When asked about battling his shoulder injury, Long said, “I needed to take some time off throwing, so I could get back in shape and get back to my normal self”. Long recently won the Javelin relay alongside Dan Cavallo in the Central Bucks Relay Invitational with a combined throw distance of 220 feet and three inches. Long had the longest throw of the day with a distance of 125 feet. Long also finished second in the 4 by one with teammates Joey Gant, Dominic Santos, and freshman Michael Muireuri with a time of 44.22 seconds. Long is very proud of his recent accomplishments, saying “it’s great to see my hard work pay off and, I hope this recent success continues”.

Landon Mcintyre had many great things to say about his fellow teammates. When I asked him to point out a specific teammate that deserves some love it was undoubtedly Joseph Sullivan. Landon had this to say about Sullivan, “He works the hardest out of anyone I know in practice, we look at him as a leader, and when he starts working it gets everyone else motivated. Joe Sullivan runs the mile for the Pennridge track team and the team has hopes that his hard work will soon continue to show off on the scoreboard.”
