Fun in the Sun

With school coming to an end and summer being right around the corner, many teens have started planning trips and thinking of fun activities for the warm summer days, but what happens when you run out of things to do? Local activities within your community are great for anyone and everyone.

Normally a Memorial Day Parade would be held by Perkasie and Sellersville Boroughs, but unfortunately, this year’s parade has been canceled. There is hope for the Perkasie and Sellersville carnival this June, but there are no confirmed dates. All that is known is that COVID restrictions, except masks, will be lifted. At the carnivals, families, and friends can enjoy delicious food and rides. Maddie Coffey said, “My favorite event would be the Perkasie/Sellersville carnival because I have never attended any of the others. The carnivals are always fun to go to!”

When the blistering hot days arrive, pack up your sunblock and sunnies (sunglasses) and head on over to Menlo, the local pool. There, you will find a pool suited for each type of swimmer. The little kiddie pool has a slide or two and is shallow for toddlers or younger children you can’t swim. Then the middle pool has a lazy river, whirlpool, slides, and a playset water park. This section is great for the rambunctious kids who want to enjoy leisure activities in the water. Lastly, there is the big pool, this is the deepest pool and there are swim lanes, a rock wall, and the drop slide. When someone is hungry, they can just walk over to the snack stand to grab a soft pretzel, ice cream, or many other treats found at the stand. Alex Lippman suggested that “It would be really fun if Perkasie held a water sports event with different water activities for kids and a big slip n’ slide down a hill”. This would be a great way to beat the heat without overcrowding the pools.

Right outside of Menlo pool and within walking distance, there is the Perkasie carousel. This was unfortunately closed last year but it should be open this season. This carousel has been around since 1951, you can earn free rides and enjoy food in the seating area.

Expected in July, there will be a Pennridge Community Day. This is where you can hang out with friends and family, play games, and eat food. There will be fireworks at the end of the night, and a tip for getting a good spot to watch is to set out a blanket that morning to save a seat. Wrapping up summer in August, there will be an ‘Under The Stars Car Show’, this is tentatively scheduled for August 21. This will feature antique cars and hot rods and it is a change of pace for people to see something different.

Since everyone has been cooped up so long, and finally more than a year later, restrictions are being lifted, this is a great opportunity for everyone to reconnect with the community.
