Perkaise Pennsylvania, doesn’t have much to do, but this small town does love its food. The Perk, The Ram, and Bankers are the top three restaurants in town and the place to go when you don’t feel like cooking. Almost everyone in the Perkasie area has been to one of the three restaurants, so we decided to rate the food that everyone loves, cheesesteaks. Philadelphia, about an hour outside of Perkasie, is known for its cheesesteaks, so why not test small town America cheesesteaks?
When rating cheesesteaks from these restaurants, we had major deciding factors for a good cheesesteak rating. A good roll, a good meat-to-cheese ratio, the taste, side options, and whether the meal comes with a pickle. These are all important factors in giving a cheesesteak a good rating. We gave our rating out of ten, then averaged each person’s ratings.
The first cheesesteak that was tested was from The Ram. The Ram is a fairly new restaurant in Upper Perkasie that was opened in 2020. It has become the new popular bar and eatery in town and is nicknamed “The new spot in Perkasie.” Looking at the menu, the cheesesteaks are a little pricey, but that’s not stopping customers from ordering them. Brooke Bennet, a food runner and hostess at The Ram states, “I see cheesesteaks being ordered a lot of the time and them going out to customers.” The cheese steak is $15, but right off the bat, it comes with fries and a pickle spear. After tasting the cheesesteak, the roll was a little tough, but the meat-to-cheese ratio canceled that out. This was a solid cheesesteak with an average rating of 6.9/10.
The Perk was the next down the road from The Ram. The Perk has been around for a long time. It was originally a hotel in downtown Perkasie and was then renovated into a restaurant in 1975. It is ‘the spot’ in Perkasie and the most popular out of the three restaurants in town. The Perk is very involved with Pennridge athletics and created a fun and friendly environment for everyone in town. Their slogan, “Where do you go after a big win? You go to the Perk!” The Perk’s cheesesteak was a lot cheaper than The Ram’s cheesesteaks, priced at $10.99. “I would say our cheesesteaks are pretty popular,” Maddy Allebach, a food runner at The Perk, states. While the cheesesteak was being ordered, they offered onions and tomato sauce to be included, as well as a side of fries upgraded from homemade chips. We wanted our cheesesteak to be as generic as we could to get the best experience, so we declined the offers. The cheesesteak was not served with a pickle, but it ended up being a very well-made cheesesteak. There was a perfect amount of cheese and meat, and the roll was very fresh. A top-tier cheesesteak and the better of the two, with an average of 8.1/10, and one more restaurant to try.
Bankers is the final of the three and is located just on the line between Perkasie and Sellersville. JT Bankers opened in 1996 after three bankers from the Willow Grove area wanted to start a business, naming it JT Bankers (Just Three Bankers). Bankers is popular among people who just want to grab a drink at the bar or a quick bite to eat. It strives for a friendly and fun environment that people want to be in. “Everyone feels welcome at Bankers,” says Shae Lightcap, a busser and hostess at Bankers. The price of the cheesesteak is between The Ram’s and The Perk’s prices at $12.99. When we ordered the cheesesteaks, the waitress asked if we wanted onions or tomato sauce, but we declined. The meal comes with chips with the option to upgrade to fries, but we also kept it as its authentic self. The cheesesteak comes with pickle chips as well, making us increase the rating. The roll was very good and fresh, but the meat-to-cheese ratio was off. There was more meat than there was cheese, making it taste more like a roll with steak on it. The taste put the rating down a little bit, but not far off from The Ram, making this an average of 6.4/10.
After tasting all three cheesesteaks from the different restaurants, it was decided that The Perk has the best cheesesteak with a rating of 8.1/10. The cheesesteak just blew us away and really outdid all other cheesesteaks. All restaurants in town have phenomenal reviews and food, and are places that everyone wants to be, but if you are looking for a good cheesesteak, The Perk is definitely the place to go!
