Between gift lists, plane tickets, and overpriced seasonal drinks, the holidays can drain a wallet fast, especially if you’re a student. That’s why we decided to explore some of the season’s best traditions, without breaking the bank. Each winter since 2019, Luminature covers the grounds and trims the trees of the Philadelphia Zoo with over one million vibrant lights and dozens of wildlife-inspired displays. The lights and sounds take you on a trip through the Arctic, over the Savannah, and under the sea. This year, the zoo is providing a new addition- a 110 foot ‘Pherris’ Wheel that gives guests a birds eye view of the lights. Along the way there are tons of photo-ops and chances to get groovy with the light performers. Luminature is definitely child-friendly. They feature playful activities for all ages, pay-as-you-go snacks, warm drinks, and a lion’s share of seasonal cheer. Luminature runs from November 20, 2025 through January 3, 2026 for just $22-29.
