SENIOR VIDEO SNEAK PEEK

Samantha Ferry, Student Writer

The Senior Video is a staple at graduation, and is a way for parents, family, and students to reflect back on how far they have come and grown.

So what’s in store for this year’s video? Jeremy Friedman, the advisor, says we will have to wait and see. When asked about the theme for this year, he said he is not revealing anything because it is something the team always likes to keep under wraps. Friedman says his role is more about keeping the crew on the right track. For the most part, the media team holds the reins on the job.

Emma Foster, a member of the team, says she has been in charge of keeping up with the Canvas announcements and scheduling when and where the students will film. She does not mind working on the video, saying that it “doesn’t feel like work.” She discloses that this video will have an emotional impact like the others, but in a different way. When asked about what it is like having a different principal in charge, she said that, “Dr. Cashman has been supportive of the media team since day one.” The team is excited about their new principal giving them a lot of creative freedom.

Dr. Stephen Cashman, the new Pennridge principal, also weighed in on what he is expecting to see, especially since this will be his first one. He is confident and trusts that the crew will create a spectacular video. “Make Your Mark” is the theme he would like to see because it would encompass how the seniors made their difference in the community over their four years at Pennridge. He also states that it is “important that it’s our story, and that it reminds you that not everything is on grades, colleges, or test scores.” Dr. Cashman has not seen the videos from previous years, but he is very excited about this one. He wants this one to be special and he “wants the kids to own this one.”

Past videos are typically seven to eight minutes long and start with a looking back scene. In the 2019 video, it starts with people walking through the 12 years of school, from elementary to high school. The 2018 video included a multitude of baby videos of the seniors on a television screen. There are plenty of features in all of the past videos of students with their friends, representing hobbies and anything they may be involved in during their high school career.  The videos also typically start off slower, appealing to the more emotional side. As the videos progress, they take a more upbeat turn by looking at how much everybody has grown and how far they all have come. The beginning song does not contain lyrics, as there is usually a voice over. The second song is upbeat and shows the students having fun with friends and teammates. We could possibly see these trends in this year’s video, or we could see something new.

Friedman and his crew will begin shooting at the end of February so if you haven’t signed up to be featured yet, be sure to fill out the Google form in the Canvas announcements on the Class of 2020 page!
