Pretty Prom Dresses Don’t Have to be Pricey

In 2020, the most beautiful, trendy, and unique dresses can come from a variety of places. These places range from upscale boutiques, to middle of the road mall shops, online websites, or even second-hand stores that cater to your specific requests. Unlike a few decades ago when there were only bridal shops and malls to purchase gowns, we now have many more choices. Because of all of our current options, we have more control over how much we spend, but also the overall amount of dresses to look at is astonishing. A really pretty prom dress does not have to be pricey in this day and age.

As early as the summer proceeding the school year, many young girls begin to dream of what their prom dress will look like, and each year the trends are a little different. Things such as shimmery metallics, candy colors, sparkly beading, gleaming satin, back details, plunging necklines, and glam jewelry all seem to be what looks most popular this year. When speaking with fellow Pennridge senior Brenna Thomson, she said, “I think the trends this year are tight, bright colors, sparkles, and beading.” So depending on who you talk to, the Cinderella’s Prom Dress opinions may differ slightly, but overall the general looks will probably be similar the night of prom.

Where is everyone going to buy their dresses? When we discussed this with senior Brenna Thomson she said, “I’ve bought mine online; I’ve never been in the store.” Which seems to be a very common response as many people enjoy shopping from the comfort of their own home and getting the best price on the internet. Knowing that many people are working within a limited budget, we spoke with Mrs. Hoffman who told us about Cinderella’s Closet. She said, “We call local prom shops and ask them for donations. They give us new dresses with tags, we pick them up and alert students through the announcements.” Besides these options, other popular places to purchase dresses are Lulu’s, Macy’s, PromGirl, David’s Bridal, and Golden Asp.

Trends are going to come and go. Where we get the dress is neither here nor there. What really matters is what we do in that dress. What kind of fun we have that night, and what we make of it.  To spend a ton of time and money on a dress that is going to be worn one night, is a decision that only the person buying can decide, by asking them selves whether it is worth it.
