Pennridge Clubs

If you want to make a difference in your community, joining a club may be the perfect option. Pennridge High School has numerous clubs, such as SAAD, MIC, and Mini-THON, that are here to help.

Many students are unaware of the various clubs held at Pennridge High School and some never even join a club throughout their high school experience. Not only are these clubs beneficial and supportive for the community, but for students as well. Having a well-rounded portfolio that shows involvement in clubs throughout high school is important in college applications. With the numerous clubs at the high school, you are guaranteed to find a club that fits your interests. Some clubs are just for fun, some aid future plans, and some allow students to speak up about topics they are passionate about. Whether Pennridge’s clubs are focusing on promoting important societal changes or gathering the community to help an issue, they definitely make an impact. Here are three clubs at Pennridge High School that are pushing to positively impact the local community.

The SAAD club is enforced not just by Pennridge but by schools nationwide. SAAD has been around for a while, and while it originally stood for students against drunk driving, SAAD includes underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, teen violence, and teen depression and suicide. Mrs. Rissmiller, the SAAD club advisor, says the club, “has really evolved and is probably more necessary than ever with so many people dealing with depression.” One of the most known activities that the club holds is Red Ribbon week. An activity that isn’t as well known is Grim Reaper Day. The club also holds a suicide prevention walk. The walk is usually open to the community and surrounding schools, such as Quakertown and Souderton, to participate. This year, because of the pandemic, the suicide prevention walk was not advertised to the public.

The Minority Inclusive Club, MIC, is a student lead club that aims to educate the school and community as well as spread awareness about the hardships that minorities face. Mrs. Angeli, the MIC advisor, says, “the club was established because the school isn’t very diverse, I wanted to have a place for the students to learn from each other.” Students meet weekly to discuss points or events that are happening in the news currently. The club is planning to do more volunteer work for the community. MIC welcomes anyone of any background and is always open to new members joining.

Lastly, The Four Diamonds MiniTHON club at Pennridge High School is a student-organized club that raises money and awareness to conquer childhood cancer. Mr. Brown, the Mini-THON club advisor, says, “Mini-THON is valuable to get kids together to do something positive”. Mini- THON members raise money during the year with many different events, then at the end of the year, the Mini-THON takes place. All of the money raised goes directly to Four Diamonds. This year, with the pandemic happening, the Mini-THON event might look a little different. The main event will be held on May 22nd and Mr. Brown says, “the plan is to have an outdoor event at the stadium”. Mini-THON members are still figuring out the time, but it should be a 4-6 hour event. Everyone will wear masks and will be socially distanced. Along with the event, they are planning a possible live watch party where they can project donations as they come in.

Pennridge’s clubs are here to make a difference not only in the students lives but in the community as well. Being involved in a high school club is the perfect way to make an impact in society as a young-adult. Many other clubs are listed on the Pennridge High School Website under For students and then Clubs. Get involved!
