Opening Up Small Businesses

Small businesses and companies all around the country should open with what they feel comfortable with. State and local governors and national officials have continued to keep having lockdowns where they close many of the businesses in their state or city. This is only hurting the economy and the people’s ability to make a living. These business owners should be allowed to open what they please whether that be indoor or outdoor dining or just takeout. These lockdowns are affecting not only their individual ability to earn a living but also their ability to pay their employees who have been laid off because of not being able to afford to pay them. People have the choice to go out or not there are many other options if a person does not feel comfortable going out. This includes takeout, curbside pick up, online shopping, and other alternatives. If people follow the COVID precautions that the state laid out they should be allowed to do what they want. According to the Wall Street Journal, 10 percent of infections are coming from travel, another 5 percent from gatherings, and another 5 percent from institutional settings like nursing homes. Only 1.4 percent of new coronavirus cases are coming from restaurants according to “NewsWeek”. This shows that restaurants don’t even account for 2 percent of the overall cases. Overall the main positive case increase is coming from individual social gatherings without masks or COVID precautions not from small businesses. State, local, and national officials will continue to hurt the economy and the well being of these owners and their employees if there is no change.
