How the Government Spending’s Affect Our World Today

Our country seems to suffer when it comes to homelessness just simply because they aren’t supported, nor do they have money to support themselves. Over the years our country has seemed to spend hundreds of billions on the military. In 2019 our country spent 718.69 billion dollars just on our military. “Defense spending increased sharply in the Trump years and is now substantially higher than it was during the Korean or Vietnam War eras or during the massive military buildup President Ronald Reagan oversaw in the 1980s.” Trump liked to show power and show our country’s superiority over every other country, which by any means is not a bad thing but was it smart? People argue that Trump didn’t spend his money properly and used too much of it on just proving our country to be superior. When he could have put the money to some homeless people charity.

Homelessness really became an issue after the Civil War when people started to “ride the rails”. There have been many charities and support groups that have helped out with homelessness but not much help from the government. Democratic party, Representative Mark Pocan, Representative Barbara Lee, and Senator Bernie Sanders tried to “pushed parallel measures in the House and Senate to cut Pentagon spending by 10 percent, a savings of more than $70 billion that could have been put to good use elsewhere, including aid to increasingly desperate low-income communities.” This would leave more than enough money to support the military and their needs while also helping out with the homeless people. Now people will argue that if we do this and our military goes into war we’d be screwed. But with this cut all of the money isn’t just spent right away into the homeless people we could withdraw from them and support the military more if it’s needed.

In conclusion, it would be a smart idea for our upcoming president to take the pentagon cut into consideration and help out the homeless people. This would help many while keeping our country strong.
