On Christmas Day of 2020, the highly anticipated album Whole Lotta Red dropped at midnight. The artist, Playboi Carti showed a new style in this album which was very different from his normal style of music. Carti is known for having songs that people can vibe to, but in his newest album, he displayed very aggressive beats and a different tone of voice than his older discography. The fans were displeased with the new album, and while it is an experimental album, the music is hard to listen to. 

Before the album was released, fans managed to get hold of the original songs in the album. When this occurred, Carti had to delay the release and start from scratch, and this is where problems began to arise. The leaked music was praised by fans, and for many, these songs were what could have saved the album, but on release, they weren’t present. 

The leaked songs pushed the album back several times, in fact, the album was announced to be released as early as March of last year. The release date was teased or announced several times since then until the true release date. Over that course of time, Playboi Carti’s change in personality could help explain the change in style present in his music. Whole Lotta Red was described as alternative by Carti in an interview on Dec. 23, 2020. This alternative style was present in every song to some degree, and this was what many fans disliked about the album. 

Carti could still keep his fans happy if he releases the deluxe version of the album in the near future. In a Twitter post, he asked the fans which songs they want to see, which means that the fans have some part in choosing from the leaks to put in the album.
