Even following an uninspiring start to the 2025 season, the team’s spirits couldn’t be higher thanks to the community they have built. The Pennridge High School Women’s Basketball team stays optimistic through the belief in themselves and their positive culture. Win or lose, the team can envision a bright future ahead of them from the work they put in now.
Unfortunately, Pennridge Women’s Basketball has found little success in recent history. The majority of the seasons since 2008-09 were at or below a neutral record. The conference record consistently has been a losing one since 2008-09. But it wasn’t always this way.
The 2006-07 team had a 24-6 overall record and a 14-0 conference record. They were ranked 34th in the state and 649th in the nation. Impressive compared to an over 10,000 rank in a later season. The season after was very good, but not enough to reach the height of the 2006-07 season under Coach Brooke Martin. Pennridge Women’s Basketball introduced a new head coach in 2024. Switching from 10-year coach Lindsey Tennent to Jason Rapp. Rapp is starting his second year with the team and hopes to introduce an inclusive, winning environment to the locker room.
As with any other team, they are always trying to win, but they also have the secondary goal of trying to find their identity with the new coaching staff. When asked what the major goals for this season are, Assistant Coach Heidi Maurer stated, “We just started; our goal is to figure out how to work together with a bunch of different parts. We want to figure out what each player’s role is.” Though there are major goals for the season as a whole, the team has its sights set on the present, with Maurer mentioning, “We are gonna take one game at a time”.
Win or lose, the team will always have success in the form of building chemistry. When asked what she was most excited for this season, Megan Moylan, a first-year freshman player, stated, “I’m really excited to bond with the team and to grow. We have a lot to work on, but I know we will get there. I’m excited to see how we grow over time.” Following a loss in their season opener, morale could very well be at an all-time low, but Megan describes it by saying, “I think that the team has very high energy, and as a freshman going into this, everyone was very supportive. I was nervous to play, but everyone made me feel comfortable. I have made a lot of good friends.”
Despite the struggles and setbacks of rebuilding and the pressure of a new era under Coach Rapp, the team defines success on its own terms. Their commitment to growth, trust, and team chemistry has proved to be successful in building a culture that goes beyond wins or losses. With a young roster and coaching centered around unity, the Rams are actively laying a future for the team one game, one practice, and one relationship at a time.
