For athlete Mckaela White, sports are about more than just winning. Whether she’s skating on the ice rink or standing on the softball field, she focuses on teamwork, kindness, and helping others feel like they belong. Her friendly nature and hard work have made her a valued teammate and friend both on and off the ice.
Mckaela’s start in ice hockey happened by chance. “I started playing my sophomore year because my friend’s sister played and told me to join,” she said. That simple invitation led to a new passion. From her very first game, Mckeala knew she had found something special. “My first time scoring was great because my whole family was there,” she recalled. That moment stayed with her, reminding her of how support from others can make an experience better.
Since then, Mckaela has balanced hockey, softball, and several school activities. She’s involved in Mini-THON, Unified, and other clubs, showing how much she enjoys being part of her school community. “I keep a good schedule and come in most mornings for clubs.” she explained. Managing sports and school takes effort, but Mckaela has learned how to stay organized and focused.
Her dedication stands out to her friends. Tori Moyer, who met Mckaela freshman year, said she was “very talkative and friendly” from the start. “She works hard to make friends and makes people feel included,” she added. “She’s understanding, trustworthy, and caring.”
Those words describe exactly how Mckaela treats her teammates. She always looks for ways to encourage others, especially new players. “I want people to remember me as being a good teammate.” She said, “I am always trying to encourage new players.”
One of her proudest moments as an athlete came when she helped kids who are blind play hockey. “It’s rewarding and very humbling,” she said. “We help them, and it’s inspiring that they want to play hockey regardless of the challenges they face.” Experiences like that remind Mckeala why she loves sports; they bring people together and show the power of determination.
Her teammate Maura Boyle, who has played with Mckalea for three years, agrees that she makes a big impact on the team. “She always puts her best foot forward and makes sure others feel confident, she’s a hard worker and a motivator.” Maura also described Mckaela as “trustworthy,” explaining that she can always be counted on to give her best and help others stay positive after a tough game.
When asked what keeps her motivated, Mckaela said it’s the challenge of facing stronger opponents. “Playing against teams that are better motivates me,” she explained. She also said that playing sports has taught her that she enjoys trying new things and stepping out of her comfort zone.
Through every season, Mckaela’s positive attitude has left a strong impression on the people around her. She’s the kind of teammate who celebrates other people’s successes like they were her own. Her kindness, dependability, and encouragement make her someone everyone wanted on their team.
“She makes people feel included,” Tori said simply. That sense of belonging is what makes Mckaela stand out. She leads not by being the loudest or most competitive, but by showing care and understanding for everyone she meets.
As she continues her journey in sports and school, Mckaela hopes people will remember her for more than her athletic skills. She wants to be known as someone who always tried her best and helped others feel welcome. Her dedication and kindness remind everyone that success isn’t just about performance, it’s about the relationships and support that come with being part of a team.
