Oldest community tree lighting goes virtual How global pandemic affected Perkasie community tree lighting.

Perkasie Pennsylvania had to go all online like the rest of us for its 2020 annual tree lighting. The beloved tradition by many was scheduled to be live over Youtube on December 5th. On Perkasie live Youtube channel, they had over an hour-long event held for Christmas that led up to the lighting of the tree. 

The tree lighting has been going on for 111 years. It has never been missed and is a very important to the town of Perkasie. Many large publications write about the Perkasie tree lighting like the Philadelphia inquirer. 

My family has gone to the tree lighting for many years. Now with the new virtual tree lighting, I got my mom’s opinion on how she feels about it. She said “the tree lighting being virtual is better than not being done at all. It was not the same, nothing is the same, we are in an unprecedented time. This is a sad depressing time for many.” My mom has been adjusting to this new life we are living, and it has been just as hard for her as anyone else. She realizes that even though we can’t have our normal life that we all want, at least we still have the internet to help us and do something.
