Activities to Do in the Perkasie Area this Spring

With spring just around the corner, and the weather getting warmer, people are looking to go outside once again. Whether for a relaxing trail to walk the dogs on, or a playground to take the kids to, Perkasie is full of interesting activities. Lake Nockamixon Park and Peace Valley Park are the two large parks in the area, and both have various springtime activities.

Lake Nockamixon spans nearly seven miles from end to end, and because of that, people love to fish at Nockamixon. One thing that Nockamixon has to offer is motorboats, which can be rented for a few hours of fishing. Nockamixon is also home to various game species, such as smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleyes, and muskellunge. Motorboats aren’t the only type of watercraft however, Nockamixon has kayaks, paddleboards, paddleboats, and with a launching permit, you can bring your own boat.

Nockamixon also has more unique activities, such as horseback riding, disc golfing, and camping. It makes for a great campsite, with such a variety of activities to do. Also, it has public restrooms, that make camping more accessible to people not used to the camping lifestyle. Around the lake, there are many different picnic spots, with tables set up, and views of the lake.

Peace Valley Park is also a place to check out, as it also has fishing and boating facilities. It also has a nature center, which allows people to go into more forested areas, and look at the view from different observation points. While you can’t camp at Peace Valley, the stuff you can do during the day makes up for it. Peace Valley has playgrounds as well, that you can take the kids to, and they also have public restrooms around the lake.

Peace Valley also hosts events from a bit later in the spring, until the start of fall. In the upcoming spring, they plan to have bands play in the park, charity runs, events, and even comedy nights for kids and teens from sixth grade to twelfth grade. Here is a list of upcoming events: Kids Yoga on Wed. Mar. 24, Mommy, Me & Nature: Hunt for the Cottontail on Mar. 30, Easter Celebration on Apr. 3, and more to come.

With the coming of spring, and getting out of the house during the pandemic, these are two fun and safe places to do outdoor activities. Just remember to bring a mask!
