Travelin’ COVID-19 Style

Travelin COVID-19 Style

Mask? Check. Hand sanitizer? Check. Social distancing? Check. Wherever you plan to travel this summer there are a few things you should expect to experience. In this day and age with the looming fear of contracting covid-19 and the implementation of different protocols and rules, planning to travel might not seem like the best option to some. Many protocols for traveling have remained consistent since the beginning of this whole pandemic, but some things are beginning to go back to normal. You still need to wear a mask, and social distance, but the cost and planning where to stay is what is changing for our summer adventures in 2021.

The basic protocols that we are all used to by now will still be in effect when traveling in the summer of 2021. Masks and social distancing are still required in places where you are around others like on the plane, lobby areas, or any other public area. Other than these protocols, nothing else has been added to the summer 2021 protocols list. “Social distancing will be a major part of your travels because not only will it be in effect while you are traveling to your destination, but also while you are there,” says tourist expert Dunlap. Madi Brown, a student at Pennridge High School had some things to say regarding the protocols with traveling. Brown said, “I feel that people should be wearing masks when they are out of their rooms in the buildings but outside is fine unless there are groups of people, then masks should be enforced”.

Hotel and flight rates are another hot topic for this upcoming summer. RainGate reported that hotel rates are beginning to rise this year, especially in June, July, and August. They also reported that the average cost for a hotel room is $275.00 a night which is a 75% increase from summer 2019. Many people are stating that they are planning to stay at their destination longer than usual because many resorts are doing deals if you stay for longer periods of time. Common places of travel that have been reported are the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, and Aruba. Another option when looking for places to stay is staying in an Airbnb or finding a house of Virbo. Many feel that this is a more “Covid-friendly” option. Flights to these places still seem to be 10 percent below the cost in 2019. Grant Sorg was interviewed and asked what he thought about flight prices and if he felt safe flying to his summer destination. Sorg stated, “I do feel safe flying, and if social distancing is enforced I don’t see what the problem would be”.

Regardless of where you go this summer, covid-19 protocols will be present but that doesn’t mean it is going to take the fun out of your vacation. Getting a travel agent is a great way to really get everything out of a trip especially now when there are restrictions at some places. Don’t let covid-19 ruin your summer plans, but if you do plan to travel just be smart! Happy travels!
