A Local Family Run Sweets Shop

The Hickory Stick on 811 Telegraph Rd, Perkasie, PA, opened in 2019. The store was purchased by the Devlin family and transformed into an ice cream shop. Laura and Tom met at an auto repair shop due to a flat tire. ”Super Sweets and Treats” was Tom’s inspiration; he had always wanted to open an ice cream shop. The family-run store sells a variety of edible items ranging from ice cream, baked goods, hot drinks, and cold drinks. Hickory Stick’s hours start at 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Wednesdays through Saturdays, and 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Sundays. Hickory Stick not only sells amazing food but participates in fundraisers. One recent fundraiser that occurred over the pandemic was set up by Laura, who made a GoFundMe account and asked for donations to go towards John Gaskin who was diagnosed with schizophrenia and learning disabilities. The owners drove him to and from work, along with other errands while he participated in “unofficial work” for the store.

Fifty-two flavors of ice cream are offered to customers at Hickory Stick. Flavors range from Magical Unicorn to Cotton Candy. Out of the wide variety, Dave Packet, a regular customer said, “I am a fan of their Chocolate Brownie Fudge ice cream. I will usually get a scoop or two on a cone.” Charlotte McGinley, an employee of nine months, has claimed that Monkey bones ice cream was the most popular order among all of her customers. Monkey bones ice cream is a banana ice cream with peanut butter graham cracker and chocolate chunks. Going from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. is the busiest time of day for Hickory Stick, especially during the weekend. The store is described to be welcoming, open, and an extremely friendly environment.

Hickory Stick not only provides more flavors but also makes customers feel welcomed and special. The sense of community and togetherness is also unique to this local ice cream shop. Supporting this shop is another way to support the local community. Fundraisers, event hosting for Pennridge events, as well as other community events are multiple ways that they give back to the community.
