Mr. Dertouzos

Ashley Pyne, Student Writer

Mr. Dertuozos is a Social Studies teacher here at Pennridge. He teaches tenth grade history and twelfth grade sociology with lots of energy and enthusiasm. His favorite class is his third period because they like to have fun, but are also very hardworking. One of his favorite grades to teach is the senior class. As well as being a teacher, Mr. Dertuozos is a baseball coach for the high school. When asked if he likes coaching or teaching better, he said, “coaching is fun, but I love teaching!” The reason he decided to become a social studies teacher was because of his grandfather, who seemed to have a great influence on him. He was very close with his grandpa, he told him many stories about the wars, the people, the culture and his experiences. He was fascinated by these stories, and eventually they led Mr. Dertuozos to become a teacher. When asked about his most embarrassing moment as a teacher, he told about the time he lost his phone. He looked everywhere for it and it was nowhere to be found. He decided to call his mom and have her call his phone to see if he could hear it. Turns out, a student found his phone and was going to give it into the office but couldn’t because of keystones. The student eventually turned it into the secretary. His mom continued to call his phone. On the loudspeaker there was an announcement saying “Mr. Dert your mom keeps calling.” Mr. Dert’s biggest role model is his parents. They are very loving and caring, and they taught him a lot. They have always supported him and motivated him to do his best.  His favorite memory is his wedding because it was the happiest moment of his life because he got to spend it with his closest friends and family. It was beautiful, warm, and sunny. Whether it be in the classroom or in the community, Mr. Dertuozos is just one of the energetic and exciting teachers here at Pennridge.
