Cell Phone Evolution

Cell phones have become a prominent tool in our everyday lives. Can you imagine not carrying your cell phone in your pocket? Before we had our nice portable devices, the early made cell phone was too large to fit in your pocket and to hold in one hand. In the year 1983, the first-ever portable phone was made by Motorola. Although this phone was not very portable, it was the only phone at the time that was small enough to be carried. Originally, this new invention had not made its way to the general public because it was mainly used in the business industry, as well as in sales.

In the year 1992, the Dawn of Consumer Handsets became popular in the general public and mass production was used to help make the cost-effective handsets. These handsets had digital displays that paved the way for future phones to adopt similar technology.  The next Nokia phone used digital technology from the handsets to advance their cell phones.

Then, in the 2000s era, we saw an exponential change. In June 2007, the day “we lost our attention spans”, according to sciencenode.org, was the premiere of the very first iPhone presented by Steve Jobs. The Apple company boomed, earning its well-deserved spot as the most popular and recognizable smartphone.

The term cell phone seems to be out of date. In an article from artinsitutions.edu it states, “the purpose of the cell phone has shifted from a verbal communication tool to a multimedia tool, often adopting the name “mobile device” rather than being called a phone at all.”. As we know, phones have advanced pretty rapidly in the last decade.
