Brooke’s Baking Blog

After being in quarantine for over a month now, I decided I needed to take on a hobby that would keep me occupied. I’ve always loved to bake so I thought this would be a great time to expand my skills with baking. This matched perfectly with my project for my journalism class, as we are creating websites and social media platforms for a subject that interests us. Baking fit right in. I learned a lot about baking and how it is very therapeutic. It made me realize it is a great way to cope with stress and anxiety. After doing a lot of research on the effects of baking mentally, I thought this would be a great way to inform others of the great effects baking has on the mind. When it comes to anxiety and stress, not a lot of people know how to cope with it. Millions of people deal with anxiety every day. Learning to accept the anxiety and work with it will lead to an overall healthier lifestyle.

Baking can be very mindful. Mindfulness is the ability to be in control of your thoughts and to be in the now. This skill is very important to learn because it can clear up anxiety and stress and allow you to focus on the present and not the future of what could happen. Many people’s minds jump to the worst scenarios when there is uncertainty. This is why mindfulness is a big skill that can help with it. With baking being a mindful activity, it is a great way to cope with these mental challenges. I hope from my website and social media platforms that many people are informed on the positive effects that baking has on mental health and how it allows you to be aware of the now and not always the future.

Mental health is something that is easily overlooked when it can be a serious issue that millions of people deal with daily. By bringing attention to mental health from something with which you might not think has a correlation allows us to face reality. I hope from the website people learn that it is a serious thing and that there are many healthy ways to cope with it such as baking.
