The Mirror: Covid Safe Workout Classes

Emily Padva, Student Writer

2020 has been a long year for everyone. Schools, restaurants, shopping centers, movie theaters, and gyms shut down to minimize the spread of COVID-19. This has left millions of people cooped up in their houses with no release date set. How can they fill the time? Classes have been set to zoom meetings, cookbooks can be dusted off, computer tabs filled with online shops, and every Netflix show has been binged, but what happened to the gym membership? Can’t seem to keep yourself motivated to change out of your pajama pants? Well there is now a way. The Mirror. It is a nearly invisible home gym that will jump start your new workout routine.

What is this mirror?

The Mirror, is a full length mirror with an embedded screen that can stream hundreds of on- demand and live workouts. This may not seem that technologically advanced. However, an instructor appears alongside your on-screen reflection, as well, as a handful of performance-related data generated from your profile information. The advanced tracking technology can get to know you personally to optimize your workout experience. You will see maximum results in minimal time.

Who is the mirror for?

If your fitness journey has come to a halt, The Mirror can start you back up. If you are ready to start your fitness journey, The Mirror will help you begin. If you miss your workout- buddies from the gym, The Mirror has you covered. You are able to connect with friends by joining the same programs, sharing progress, and cheering each other on. You even have the option to get the whole family involved and start friendly competition.

Benefits of The Mirror

The Mirror is the latest piece of fitness technology. It has been carefully designed with high quality details. The classes are engaging, and a relationship can be made with each trainer. Exercises are thoughtfully designed and purposeful. The idea of the mirror was specifically created so users can see what they look like and focus on their form. Aubrey Maher explained that, “as an athlete, form is important because if you complete a workout incorrectly it can result in injury. This defeats the purpose of working out. Completing exercises with a mirror is a game changer.” The Mirror is also equipped with customizable music while working out.

Dealbreakers of The Mirror

The biggest turn away with The Mirror is its high price tag. The following explains the cost breakdown:

Mirror: $1,495

Delivery and installation (recommended): $250

Subscription: $39 a month ($468 a year), with a one- year minimum commitment

First- year total (excluding tax): $2,213 (About $184 a month)

If you are using The Mirror several times a week, you could potentially get your money’s worth; however, there is always the option to run around the block for free. Of course, the gym atmosphere is not there, but it is a significant amount of money. Megan Lokuta said, “My yoga studio closed for quarantine and I tried to find new ways to incorporate fitness into my schedule. I saw The Mirror online, but after I saw the price I kept scrolling.”

Overall

The Mirror is an amazing piece of equipment to complete your workout routine. It includes all of the latest technology and looks pretty while not being used. Unfortunately, the highest quality technology comes with the highest price tag. If you can afford this investment, The Mirror is recommended. However, your fitness journey will certainly be accomplished with motivation and not The Mirror.
