Banana Dessert Sushi

Craving something sweet while on a diet? Try this banana dessert sushi recipe! This was a delicious, fun way to make a low-calorie, high-protein dessert. The ingredients are so simple and can be found at any local store. Mix PB2 powder with a little bit of water to make your low-calorie peanut butter. Take your spinach tortilla and spread your peanut butter all over the tortilla. Then, take your banana and place it on the end of the tortilla. Sprinkle some chocolate chips on the peanut butter and roll it all up! Finally, drizzle some honey on the top, cut it into pieces, and enjoy!

 

This recipe is a great way to stay in your calorie deficit, while still being able to enjoy a delicious dessert. In this recipe, substitutions are key to keeping it low-calorie. To lighten up the calories in the tortilla shell, we switched it out for a spinach tortilla shell which is only 60-calories rather than the 120 that you would get in a normal flour tortilla. The spinach shell also has lower net carbs, zero trans-fat, cholesterol, and zero sugars. This tortilla is a much healthier alternative to using a normal tortilla. We also substituted the PB2 powder for peanut butter. This also lowers the calories and fat intake, while keeping the same great flavor. Pennridge senior Samantha Kiwak claims that she “didn’t even notice that it wasn’t regular peanut butter…” and that it “tasted normal.” Another beneficial part of this dessert is the banana. Bananas are a very convenient snack, full of nutrients, high in fiber, and low in calorie. That is exactly what you want when staying in a calorie deficit. 

 

They say never judge a book by its cover, and this is why. As Pennridge senior Kevin Walsh says “the green tortilla throws you off a little bit, but the taste makes up for it.” If you judge a book by the cover, you will never find out the value of the inside. That goes for this dessert as well. Even though the appearance isn’t very appealing, the flavor makes you forget about the look. If there’s one thing we learned from making this recipe, it’s that you should never be afraid to try new things because you never know if you’re going to end up loving it.
