Who is Mr. Feher?

Edgar Alejandro Pena-Acosta, Student Writer

Now a 33-year-old band and music tech teacher, Kevin Feher has his eyes on his newest goal, balancing between work life and home life. Feher has always been a hard worker at Pennridge High School. He has been dedicated to his work and feels like he struggles with balance. It’s easy for him to go full steam ahead into his job. With a baby on the way, Feher hopes to find his balance between work and home, so he can be there for his child and be there for his students.

How did Feher become a teacher? Well, Feher always knew he wanted to be a teacher, he loved the idea of helping people and finding their spark. At first, he wanted to be a math teacher because math clicked to him; he was very good at it during his schooling years. However, he was swayed to become a music teacher during middle school. When he was in middle school, his school required their students to take a form of music, either band, orchestra, or choir. Feher picked band and picked up the clarinet as his first instrument in 5th grade. Feher absolutely loved his band teacher, which settled his choice to become a music teacher.

When asked if he had any other career options growing up, he answered with “my biggest regret was taking a pilot program for forensic science my senior year instead of physics. I enjoyed math and wasn’t as good at science, so when I heard that my friends took physics and loved the class, I wish I took that class instead”. Even now whenever Feher sees one of his students doing physics homework, he always attempts to learn about it.

Feher sees himself as an empathetic person and he said “I try my best to know where people are coming from” he enjoys building on students’ weaknesses. Feher considers himself more of a collaborative person than a solo person. He enjoys teamwork-based activities and sees himself as a member of a band rather than a solo musician.
