How to Style Short Hair

Jenna Fanini, Student Writer

“Your hair is supposed to be a fun thing- something to style and play with and use to express yourself – when I say express yourself, I don’t mean one look that describes you, I mean looks that describe you and your soul every new day” claimed Madelyn Fanini. Many can agree with the fact that changing your hair to match your changing and growing self makes hair fun. There are so many ways to change your hair like dying it, highlighting it, cutting it, or styling it.

Styling has the most options and variety when changing your hair. For example, you can style your hair using techniques like straitening, curling, teasing, blow-outs, volumizers, slicking, plaiting,

and many more, which can be done at the salon or at home. For those looking to style their short hair at home. Here are some different ways to style your short hair.

1)   Effortless Texture

Natural beauty is a current trend in society and contrary to most beliefs, very easy to achieve. With a few extra steps, your hair can go from flat and plain to texturized and bold.

Materials: Spray Water, Comb, & Styling (Finishing) Paste

Suggested Brand: Garnier Fructi’s Style

Step 1: Dampen the hair. Your hair can be damp from the shower or you can use a spray bottle of water to dampen the hair.

Step 2: Comb through hair to release knots and tangles. Then create a part in the hair and continue combing hairs into the desired position.

Step 3: Grab a jar of Styling Paste. Using fingertips, scoop desired amount of paste out of the jar. While rubbing your fingertips together it will allow the gel to warm and be more workable. Once the paste is warm, evenly spread throughout the hair while adjusting hair into position. Finally, allow hair to stand until dry.

2)   Layered Blow-Out

A fun and diverse look for work or going out. A layered Blow out can add texture, volume, and depth to your hair with a few products and a couple of steps.

Materials: Spray Water, Comb, Hair Dryer, Mouse, & Hair Spray.

Suggested Brand: Redkens

Step 1: Dampen hair thoroughly. Your hair can be damp from the shower or you can use a spray bottle of water to dampen the hair.

Step 2: Comb through hair to release knots and tangles. Then create a part in the hair and continue combing hairs into the desired position.

Step 3: Grab Mouse. “Volumizing mouse is best to get full effect” Deborah Feactu recommended. Then squirt the desired amount of mousse into the palm of the hand and spread evenly onto both hands. Next, massage the mouse into the roots of your hair evenly.

Step 4: Dry hair with a blow dryer while continuing to style with mousse. Once hair is almost completely dry, perfect the shape of the hair.

Step 5: Hair Spray and let stand until dry.
